The Chagford Singers start singing again on Wednesday 12th September at Endecott House in Chagford. We rehearse every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
We have just short of 40 members in August 2018. They come from all around Chagford: Widecombe, Manaton, Moretonhampstead, and north and west out towards Cheriton Bishop Tavistock and and Okehampton. All of us love modern and classical choral music. See our historic repertoire under “About the Choir”. The modern items extend to the dramatic Miss Saigon, poignant Les Miserables as well as the beautiful (dis)harmonies Paul Mealor and Ola Gjeilo.
You are welcome to come to our rehearsals for a few weeks to see whether you want to join! If joining, our subs are presently £120 a year, payable each month or in two halves if you choose. The subs, and any fund raising, cover our musical director and accompanist, musicians for performances, room rentals and music scores and more.
Rehearsals and the music are taken seriously but our Musical Director, Tim Pithers, has a great sense of humour and a light touch. The choir members are welcoming and range from the musically gifted and hugely experienced to the inexperienced who perhaps last sang at school. The less experienced can follow their score even if not able to sight read and develop skills quickly. Some practice at home is expected generally using internet sites which assist with the soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB) parts. There are no auditions and you would not be asked to perform solos unless you volunteer.
Generally, we perform 3 concerts a year (usually with a post concert party), have 1 or 2 fund-raising coffee mornings per year, a workshop (this year Carmina Burana on 13th October!), some Christmas fundraising commitments and sometimes a summer garden party.
This 12th September we start rehearsing Schubert’s Mass in G and some Christmas selections and carols. Why not give us a try? Use the Contact Us facility here on the website or talk to Toria on 01647 221228.
